Citigroup Q2 EPS, Revenue Top Estimates

Citigroup reported early Friday Q2 earnings of $1.28 per diluted share compared with an income of $1.24 per share a year ago, beating the $1.21 average estimate from analysts polled by Capital IQ. Total revenue rose to $17.90 billion from $17.55 billion a year ago, coming in above the $17.38 million consensus.

Citigroup said in a statement it returned $2.2 billion of capital to common shareholders and repurchased 29 million shares in the quarter. “Our recently announced 2017 capital plan includes a return of $18.9 billion enabling us to reduce the amount of capital we hold,” CEO Michael Corbat. “We are clearly on course to increase both the return on capital and return of capital for our shareholders.”
